Lake Park Native Garden tour

November 30, 2022

Daniel Mazawa and Rick Mathews of Madrone Landscapes led the tour.  The students were part of the Environmental Studies group at Monache High School in Porterville.  Daniel and Rick did a great job informing the students about the design of the garden and the various native plants. They emphasised plants that are easy to grow and considerations for selecting plants.  They pointed out that the garden includes a rainwater retention pond which catches the rain water from the Pavilion roof, thereby keeping it within the garden available to the plants and trees and not letting it drain to the streets and storm drains.

Prior to coming to the garden, the students went on a tour of the Cal Poly campus.  The tour of the Lake Park Native Garden provided the students with tips to help them with their assigned project of designing and planting a native plant garden back at school.
