Volunteer Workdays

ALPS has monthly volunteer workdays on our properties. Click on EVENTS for workday locations and dates.  No special knowledge or tools are needed to participate, only an interest in helping to preserve the environment with a friendly, supportive group of people.  Children are welcome but must be accompanied by a parent, guardian or responsible adult.

Conservation activities

  • Trail construction and maintenance
  • Native plant garden construction and maintenance
  • Native tree planting and preservation
  • Fire hazard reduction (weed abatement, dead vegetation removal)
  • Litter removal
  • Elimination of exotic species
  • Fence construction and browse protection
  • Erosion control

Other Public Service activities

  • Help administer the City’s Tree Preservation ordinance (Tree City)
  • Help maintain and enhance landscaping at the Lake Pavilion
  • Develop environmental education programs and conduct tours for school children
  • Help maintain the City's Stadium Park
  • Participate in City programs such as "Party for the Planet" (Conservation Day) at the zoo
  • Design and install wayfinding signs to Stadium Park
  • Opportunities for youth service projects e.g. high school, scouts
  • Award college scholarships to Atascadero High School students
