Workday at Halcon & Calle Milano Oak Tree sites

May 23, 2026

Voluteers helped with our annual maintenance at the Halcon Tree Planting site.  This site has 31 small oak trees.  The voluteers removed vetch and weeds from around the trees and then put down a new layer of mulch to help reduce future weeds and keep the soil from drying.  The browse protection cages were then replaced and secured to keep the deer from nibbling away new growth.

The volunteers then moved over to the Calle Milano oak tree planing site where they replaced the 14 small cages with big cages so the trees can continue to grow without being nibbled down by the deer. The cages will eventually be removed once the trees have become well established.

A big thanks goes to board member Jonalee for picking up some of the shreaded drip line up on the Las Lomas Phase I planting site.  The drip line was shredded by a masticator that was performing fuels reduction around the Las Lomas development.

Thanks to the seven voluteers that came out to help!  If you are interested in helping with ALPS projects, please leet us know by emailing ALPS at: info@supportalps.org
