Party for the Planet - Zoo at the Lake Park

April 19, 2026

ALPS volunneers had a booth at the "Party for the Planet" event at the Zoo within the Atascadero Lake Park.  The event was a celebration of Earth Day!  Lots of visitors came to the zoo to look at animals and the booths set up by local conservation organization.

ALPS had magnifying glasses for the kids to look at leaves, flowers and other flora so they could see that there is a lot going on when you look "close up!"  We had display posters set up that showcased our properties and planting sites.  We gave away a number of Oaks (Blue, Live and Valley) and some Black Walnut seedling to people wanting to plant trees on their property.  The trees were graciously supplied by Joe O'Donnell, a member of the Native Tree Committee within the ALPS organization.

Besides providing shade to cool the earth, did you know one oak tree provides oxygen for 10 people while sequestering Carbon Dioxide from the air?  Plant a tree and help the planet!

It was a great opportunity to let people know more about ALPS and what we do in the local community to save open space, support our native trees, and provide education.
