Workday at Alondra Tree Planting Site
November 1, 2025
The Alondra Planting Site is located on Alondra Road on the back side of the Las Lomas housing development. The oak trees were planted as partial mitigation for the hundreds of oak trees that were cut down to make room for the development.
The workday was a great opportunity to see a vibrant thriving oak tree planting site!
Thirteen volunteers helped perform the following maintenance items at the site:
- Weeded around the smaller trees and then applied a thick layer of mulch. The thick layer of mulch (4 - 6 inches thick) helps with weed control and moisture retention.
- Helped construct and install 25 large browse protection cages around the growing trees. Many of the trees had outgrown their smaller cages and were getting nibbled on by the local deer population.
ALPS provided snacks, lemonade and the necessary tools for each of the activities.
Thanks very much to the volunteers that came out to help. One day there will be a beautiful oak forest in this area!
