TBOP Fuels Reduction Project
April 21, 2025
The Upper Salinas-Las Tablas Resource Conservation District (USLTRCD) partnered with the Atascadero Land Preservation Society, the Atascadero Fire Department, San Luis Obispo County Firesafe Council and CALFIRE to implement a fuels reduction project at Three Bridges Oak Preserve from April 21 to April 25, 2025.
The project goals include enhancement of forest health and mitigation of wildfire risks to the community. Treatment focussed on lifting up the tree canopy as needed, reducing dead vegetation and some live vegetation that serve as wildfire fuel. The treatment units were strategically located near homes and in high fire hazard severity zones. The fuels reduction crews used chainsaws and a tracked chipper to disperse the material. To ensure the protection of wildlife, a certified biologists was present on-site periodically throughout the project duration. ALPS repersentatives were on site during the duration of the project to ensure the implementation was carried out as designed. Funding for the project was provided by the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection's Wildfire Resiliency Program.
