Party for the Planet - Memorial Tree planting
April 8, 2017
ALPS participated in the Annual Party for the Planet at the Atasacdero Zoo. ALPS provided displays and information about our mission and how we accomplish it
.
Before the event, a Valley Oak tree was planted in the Lake Park near the Ranger House in memory of Jack Heninger. After his retirement in 1988, he volunteered at the Fullerton State University Arboretum where professional arborists taught him enough about trees that he eventually become the Director of the Orange County Tree Society. In 1992 Jack and his wife moved to Atascadero where he said they were greeted by Marge Macky, who never found a tree that she didn't like. Anyone who proposed to cut a tree down was in trouble with her. Jack joined the Atascadero Native Tree Association and helped plant native trees and shrubs around the Pavilion, the Mall east of the high school, and along El Camino Real from San Anselmo north to Del Rio
