Arbor Day - Tree plantng at Colony Heritage Center

December 9, 2023

ALPS volunteers planted two (2) Valley Oak trees at the Atascadeo Historical Society's Colony Heritage Center located next to the Library.

One of the trees was planted in memory of Don Jernigan who passed away recently.  Don was a very active member of the Atascadero Native Tree Association (ANTA) and helped plant and care for many of the trees planted at the various tree planting sites.  Planting trees was in Don's blood!

Don was also the ALPS Treasurer from 1996 to 2005.

Every year ALPS Native Tree Committee (formerly ANTA) celebrates Arbor Day by finding a significant location to plant native trees.  As the Colony Heitage Center becomes a reality we want to ensure there will always be Valley Oak trees to adorn the site.
